Jaseiken Necromancer [邪聖剣ネクロマンサー] Game Sample -- PC Engine
Jaseiken Necromancer (Also known as "Necromancer" and "The Necromancer", its title literally meaning "Wicked Holy Sword Necromancer") is the first traditional RPG released for the PC Engine, released during January of 1988. The game, like many console JRPGs of the 80s and early 90s, was modeled and largely influenced by the popularity and success of ChunSoft's "Dragon Quest" games, but also took some cues from Sega's "Phantasy Star" and distanced itself with a few "dynamic" aspects and a mature, mildly macabre world clearly inspired by the likes of HP Lovecraft and HR Giger... in fact, the game was inspired by HR Giger so much that his name is listed in the game's ending credits. A remake of the game is currently planned for Japanese Mobile phones and a DS adaptation known as "Jaseiken Necromancer: Nightmare Reborn" was released in 2010. If the first Dragon Quest was about finding Erdrick's Sword, rescuing a princess, and slaying the Dragonlord, then this game essentially has the same premise, except they removed the princess and made the game more twisted as you find a demonic sword of immense power which can be good or evil depending on the wielder in an attempt to use it to defeat the vile "Great King Azatos" who will destroy the world if left unchecked. You play as a nameless hero who has traveled to the premiere "Kingdom of Randamelia" who is tasked with questing for the Necromancer Sword, and you are allowed to take two companions with you on your quest out of a ...
